Autumn Qi Chats | Week 1

Close your mouth…

This week’s Qi Time chat leads us to talk
about what you can do to train the lungs
this season so you can boost your immune system.

Training the lungs goes beyond “inhale and exhale”.

Many of us take breathing for granted because we assume we’re doing it well enough as we haven’t dropped dead yet! But take into consideration that many, in fact MOST, of us breathe poorly. During the season of the LUNG, we will take time to learn ways to train as we move the ribcage, engage our breathing muscles and learn the rhythm of breath.

Do you breathe properly?

Check out this list below and on a scale of 0-4. Rate yourself.
0- Never 1- Rarely 2- Sometimes 3- Often 4- Very Often

Chest Pain
Blurred Vision
Dizziness
Confusion or Loss of Reality
Fast or Deep Breathing
Shortness of Breath
Palpitations in Chest

Tightness Across Chest
Bloated Sensation in Stomach
Tingling in Fingers and Hands
Difficulty Breathing or Taking Deep Breaths

Cold Hands or Feet
Anxiety

So what was your number?

This little quiz is called the NIjmegen Questionnaire is an assessment tool used to help coaches learn how their athlete is breathing throughout the day. Add your score up and see if your number is over 23. A score over 23 suggests hyperventilation. Meaning you’re in the RIGHT place as Bamboo Bodies Autumn seasonal training will help you lower this number and get you feeling better! Your 1st step forward is beginning with the following…

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

Close your mouth!

  • Crazy to think that you can begin changing your breathing habits by closing your mouth but it’s true!

  • Of course beyond the mouth closing drill, what else can you do? Paper bag breathing. YES! Begin your movement with paper bag breathing for 30 seconds to 60 seconds.

  • As you nasal breathe, feel your ribs expand. Practice your prime the pump before you get out bed, after prolonged static positions and before you move!
