Summer Qi Chats | Week 5
Is your body weak or your mind?
This week we should discuss the depth of Qigong Posting and how you may need more mindful training!
Training the Monkey Mind
The brain is considered the wandering organ and righteously so, our thoughts are like a easily distracted, often busy and rarely settled. I’ve talked before about the Shen and clarity of mind is so important to decision making, behavioral choices and peace of mind. When comparing the ‘mind’ with the Shen, we can dilute the two into our consciousness, subconsciousness, our personality, mindset. I love the definition that the Shen is the totality of our experiences showing itself through who and how we are…
But we can often LOSE ourselves when we’re busy and our Shen is disturbed. So by ‘training the monkey mind’ we are settling the chaos so your Shen can see through the sediment and see clearly.
SETTLE DOWN
The goal of posting is to settle the mind and body. What I’ve come to learn through posting is we are emotional human being and our bodies ability is often controlled by our feelings. Think of the times when you’ve been too scared, too nervous, too anxious to do something active and easily enough, your body proves to you that you shouldn’t/can’t. Part of our emotions are safety guards from the brain. Another part of our emotions are ability restrictions that we need to overcome.
For many of us, the first moment of pain and we think ‘NOPE!’ but giving yourself a cognitive moment to analyze the situation, can you calm that initial emotion and realize that the body is safe, you’re just expending energy differently or explore new movement. That’s the goal of posting is to settle the emotions and learn how to circulate your energy away from ATP to Qi THEN your body won’t feel like it’s expending energy and not exploring new movement but rather settling into a clarity of the the mind and body.
Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!
Settle the mind
Take time to just be still with the mind and body - posting, walking, sitting (Zuo Fu), meditating
Set aside a weekly practice. Even for 5 minutes to clear the mind and let the ‘dust settle’
