Winter Qi Chats | Week 12
What do you do for your Kidney Qi?
This week we go over a general understanding of the Kidney system and learn how you can tonifiy the Qi daily.
What is the Kidney System?
In Chinese Medicine there are 5 essential systems that function symbiotically to create a flow of Qi for balanced health. The Kidney system doesn’t need to be taken too literally, though modern science is continually studying the mechanics of the Kidney and discovering neuroendocrine-immune networking system that are identical (pretty cool!).
This intricate system governs the reproductive system as well as how we develop, I always refer to the Kidneys when age is part of the topic. The Kidneys Qi flow is ‘grasping’ and receives Qi from the Lungs, it also store our essence as the adrenals are seated right on top of these little organs. Functionally, the Kidney system controls our lower orifices (bladder control), manifests hair on the top of our head, fuels our sexual drive (Ming Men Fire) and produces bone marrow which controls our bone health.
When you experience symptoms like incontinence, frequent urination, nighttime urination (enuresis), low back pain or amenorrhea, then consider a deficiency in Kidney Qi.
Western Kidneys
The kidneys are a pair of organs responsible for filtering waste products and excess fluids from the blood, which are then excreted in the urine. The main functions of the kidneys include regulating the body's fluid and electrolyte balance, producing hormones that regulate blood pressure and red blood cell production, and removing toxins from the body. Kidney function is commonly measured using tests that evaluate the level of waste products, such as creatinine and blood urea nitrogen, in the blood. These tests can help diagnose kidney disease and monitor the progression of the disease over time.
So you can see the correlation!
