Winter Qi Chats | Week 13
Are your nutritional habits healing you or harming you?
This week we go over food order and how you can customize your nutritional health!
Where there’s smoke…
We talk a LOT about inflammation and how you can tame it via the anti-inflammatory pathway of the Vagus nerve, via lymphatic massage and even systemic breathing techniques to affect the PNS. But if you’re shoving while snowing, then you’re going to have a harder time decreasing inflammation in the body.
One major culprit is glucose spiking. Spiking creates free radicals that harm cells and mutate DNA, as well as creating oxidative stress and inflammation. Sugar-rich food spikes even more so than carbs. Inflammation is at the root of most illnesses. Here’s a wild fact - 30% of our population will die of an inflammation-based illness. Think of that as 3 out of 5 people will have a fatal illnes due to lifestyle that’s causing inflammation.
Avoid the Spike
So a quick take away is learning to lessen the glucose spikes to lessen the stress on the body which will create a ‘fight it off’ response which in the end is more in your detriment vs favor. So how can we lessen these spikes?
First - understand food
Second - understand YOU
Third - begin eating like a European or Asian (begin meal with salads and vinegar-based dressing)
Fourth - more fruits and veggies during your meals
Fifth - savory breakfasts & snacks vs sweet treats
Sixth - move to digest post meal
Seventh - eat in order (veggies first, then fats and proteins, then starches and finally fruit)
Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!
Slow down and find the order
Just stop and think about what you’ve been eating 1st and generalize if that will give you an initial sugar spike and see if you can weigh it down with proteins before the sweet/starch option
Consider a CGM or even just a CM to experiment
