Spring Qi Chats | Week 1

Spring has arrived

This week we discuss how to use this Spring Qi to nourish the Liver and discover what that actually means for our health.

LIVE FOR THE LIVER

In TCM, the liver system is associated with the Wood element, and its corresponding season is spring. It is believed that the liver system is most active during this time, and that supporting the liver during the spring can help to prevent imbalances and promote overall health and wellbeing.

To nourish the Liver, we need to understand what the Liver supports and in return we can alter how we move, what we eat, how we live our lives around habits that can harm or heal.

What is the Liver System?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the liver system is not only limited to the physical organ of the liver, but it is considered a larger concept that includes the liver, gallbladder, tendons, and eyes.

The liver system is one of the most important organ systems in TCM, and it is responsible for regulating the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body. It is also responsible for storing blood, regulating emotions, and supporting digestion.

When the liver system is functioning properly, Qi and blood flow smoothly throughout the body, the emotions are balanced, and digestion is efficient. However, when there is an imbalance in the liver system, it can lead to a variety of symptoms, such as headaches, PMS, digestive issues, emotional imbalances, and eye problems.
