Vision Care Starts Now…

This week’s Qi Time chat leads us to talk
how caring for the eyes goes beyond JUST training, but also knowing what we can do to protect the eyes from over-stimuli & fatigue.

When was the last time you closed your eyes?

No I am not referring to closing your eyes before bed. Nor am I suggesting this as a meditative practice. Have you been in a busy room and sat back to just close your eyes and separate yourself from the chaos? Vision care can be as simply as closing the eyes and coming into your breath.

Breathe to Reset the Eyes

The Visual System uses a LOT of fuel. Our brains need glucose and oxygen as fuel so a visual reset can be as simple as closing the eyes as you breathe. Last week, I introduced axial lengthening and the week prior, you were encouraged to extend your breath training by breathing into a paper bag to enhance your carbon dioxide levels (Increasing your tissue absorption of oxygen). So let’s build on your ever growing toolbox of drills that you can attempt to apply for better visual acuity and longer visual stamina.

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

Close your Eyes!

  • Stay hydrated!

  • Get your eyes to blink more often by limiting your screen time.

  • You can use bands, weighted vest or a centered weight (basically pack your backpack with light weight and wear it for your stance) + bring the paper bag breathing into a closed eye exercise.

  • Take the time to close the eyes by ‘palming’ over the eyes to create a dark space as you breathe. If you wake between 1am and 3am regularly, then do ‘palming’ for the Heart/Liver connection during the daytime between 11am and 1pm.
