Autumn Qi Chats | Week 4
Balance is everything
This week’s Qi Time chat leads us to talk
about what does balance mean to the body. Literally and figuratively.
Does your actual structural balance affect your mental/emotion balance?
Short answer “Heck yes it does!” Longer answer, when we are not able to move with a stable midline, strong extremities and a functioning inner ear, then we are a shaky individual who may not handle the outside world very confidently. That said, our brain will train us to view movement as ‘a bad idea’, hence affecting our nervous system into a constant state of threat.
How can I train balance?
As you learned last week, the Visual system takes a LOT of fuel to maintain and train. The Vestibular system also is a highly fueled neuro-system and breath work will be your 1st go to before and during training. (Starting to find a theme here from week to week??) Let’s go over a few simple ways you can train the inner ear so you can feel confident in your movement and other actives.
Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!
Create a stable midline
Static neck holds to help create a strong cervical spine
Swallow with eyebrows raised and a cheesy grin to find ‘the spot’ of the tongue.
Bringing in from last week: You can use bands, weighted vest or a centered weight (basically pack your backpack with light weight and wear it for your stance) + nasal breathe into your paper bag
Remain static OR, if you’ve learned your golden nugget from class, opt for the following…
Sway as you keep your eyes fixed on a target for 10-15 seconds
Bounce up and down as you keep your eyes fixed on a target for 10-15 seconds
