Spring Qi Chats | Week 3
Want to do something about your vision?
This week we discuss how vision training leads to more benefits than just seeing better. Looking young with healthier eyes is also a side-effect!
The Eyes
Your vision is at the brain’s top priority as this sensory system keeps you safe. We use our eyes to confirm a loud “BANG” sound. We see that it was a balloon popping, we’re safe. We use our eyes to confirm movement. “Is my body doing what Angi is doing during the Tiger?” Use a mirror, it can help! Beyond confirmation, our eyes are constantly on the lookout out as we dart around our surrounding to assess the situation and learn what’s around us so everything is predictable. Clarity of our vision gives us comfort and information.
How long has it been?
Sadly the practice of eye movement (and the inhibition of) is not as practiced in our gym culture. It’s been forgotten along with other amazing movements like the tongue, the jaw and the toes. I digress. The longer we fail to TRAIN to use these areas of the body, the less apt they are to function with accuracy, speed and efficiency.
Be mindful the difference between USING your eyes and TRAINING your eyes.
As we train, we have a purpose and skill we want to execute with the drill. We can record our eye movement to see exactly how well we are performing the drill and use the 1st video as a baseline to see the progress over time. 6-12 weeks of eye drills can make a visual difference. Literally. Your eyes will look brighter, your eye lids will be more engaged to result in bigger eyes.
Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!
