Spring Qi Chats | Week 5

Slow can be strong

This week we discuss how tendon training needs to focus on speed, direction and load.

The Sinews

The sinews are connected to the Liver System in Chinese Medicine. As we enjoy the season of the Wood element we can focus on our roots and branches of our movement, teaching us to train the ligaments and tendons of the joints.

Train the Sinews

Strength training is an effective way to strengthen the tendons and sinews of the body as we age. Tendons and sinews are the connective tissues that attach muscles to bones and support the joints.

As we age, our tendons and sinews may become less flexible and more prone to injury. Strength training can help to increase the strength and flexibility of these tissues, which can reduce the risk of injury and improve overall mobility.

When beginning a strength training program, it is important to start slowly and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts. This will help to prevent injury and allow your body to adapt to the new demands being placed on it.

In addition to strength training, it is also important to maintain a healthy diet and get adequate rest and recovery time. This will help to support the growth and repair of your tendons and sinews, as well as the rest of your body.

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

Train the stretch

  • Play with load and breathing within stretched positions

  • Create tension within a stretch rather than JUST relaxing into it

  • I demo 2 stretched positions that you can train for both the upper body and the lower body
