Spring Qi Chats | Week 5

Link and lengthen

This week we discuss how tendon training is about connecting and mobilizing the kinetic chain of the body.

The Sinews

The sinews are connected to the Liver System in Chinese Medicine. As we enjoy the season of the Wood element we can focus on our roots and branches of our movement, teaching us to train the ligaments and tendons of the joints.

If the joint is jammed or immobile…

We have discussed the neural reaction of the placement of a joint, known as arthokinetic reflex. This reflex demonstrates how the mobility (or lack there of) a joint can affect the activation or inhibition of muscular contraction. Meaning… if a joint is jammed or immobile you are less capable of a strong, connected and control movement because the muscles are not contracting as smoothly nor as strong as hoped.

So how we find mobility is through the ‘rooted’ basics of Qigong and learning to ground from the earth and aspire to reach toward the heavens through Xiao Jiao Tian, the Heavenly Orbit. Then play with joint mobility from an expansive and contractive place of control.

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

Reach for the Stars as you remain rooted.

  • Tongue placement + feel your feet. Lengthen through Bai Hui

  • Joint mobility from linear to the non-linear to banded non-linear with speed and surprise
