Summer Qi Chats | Week 2

Wanna know the best tool in your home?

This week we review functional exercises that you may be forgetting to utilize EVERY DAY with ease!

Come and knock on our door!

Functional movement is key in how you will train your body to experience unexpected activities like falling, tripping, rolling, twisting, squatting, carrying etc. Training for the unexpected is part of Bamboo Bodies and it’s important to know that ‘stuff happens’.

Whether you’re outside or in your own home - know that your body may move in a way that the brain says “what is THAT?! I’m not familiar with that weird twist you just did..” - then the outcome is either pain, discomfort or injury. Either way, you need to train your body to move in ways that are part of daily ‘uh-ohs’ so your brain can be familiar with all ranges of motions under any varying speed or load.

Training for new movement (or unexpected movement) can get your brain’s attention like a knock on the door!

What are you doing standing there?

Speaking of a door - that’s one of the BEST and more accessible functional pieces you have in your home! You most likely have a few doorframes and each door could be recognized as a ‘station’ for movement to train the body for more functional movement.

So don’t just stand there… let’s go over 4 different exercises that you can use with a door frame!

  1. Hanging and twisting

  2. Marching with the door frame

  3. Resistance for the limbs

  4. Anchoring for banded movement

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

Choose your door

  • Let’s go over the 4 exercises you can use with your very own AT HOME exercise equipment

  • Here’s a great tip: Write your exercises by the door of choice (choose one that you’re around the most - usually a kitchen entrance) & play around when you’re just standing there!
