Autumn Qi Chats | Week 11
What does the crane mean to you?
We’ve rehearsed the movement of the Crane for the Autumn Season but have you asked yourself, what does this all mean?
Have you observed your habits?
The simple story to tell of our relationship with the movement of the Crane is mimicry. It was not uncommon for Qigong masters to observe the habits of animals and attempt to mirror their essence through movement. The Crane has often been associated with regal strength and grace. The skill of this ‘dance’ taps deeper than movement along but becomes a meditative practice to emulate the intention of the animal.
Cultivating Qi via the habits of a Crane, creates a more meaningful practice as you direct your Yi towards being more reserved and thoughtful in your demeanor. And in Bamboo Bodies, you learn that your movement can be more reserved.
Let’s go over what that can look like for you!
Balance. Strength. Longevity.
Your balanced movement can signify strength. This ability is cherished as we age. Seeking to live a long and active life, we too should be inspired to train like the Crane. But it takes much more than observation and an occasional exercise moment.
To bring yourself out of imbalanced habits, can be as simple as slowing down and observing whether you can create a movement slowly and with control or quickly and unsupported. If you’re training for longevity, then your ‘movement gaps’ need to be minimized. Adapting to familiar movement with slow and intentional movement may take time in the beginning but you will see and feel the results in the end. Let’s go over them in today’s Qi Chat!
