How can I preserve my memories as I age?

This week’s Qi Time chat leads us to talk
about cognitive training and how our brain ages when we are active.

What have you contributed to your brain training?

To answer that question… you’ve done a lot! Know that you cover a LOT in Bamboo Bodies as we stimulate the brain with complex movement patterns, games, breath training and Qigong. Cognitive training is about life skills. Yes, environmental exposures, sleep, stress, gut health and oral health are other factors that will affect your brain as you age. But it’s nice to know that you’ve been investing a lot already.

Find the Yin behind the ‘Go’.

Did you know that you can prevent mental decline as you continue to age? Structural changes in the brain, know as neuroplasticity can be for the positive by shifting habits. However, in the process of ‘doing something’ we need to also understand the power of ‘doing nothing’. Making these brain changes requires us to come into our Yin and step out of the sympathetic state of ‘fight or flight’. Rather than adding so much to your list when it comes to cognitive training. Start with stillness and learning to let go of all the excess. Rid yourself of all the tasks that are in your life and LET IT GO.

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

Let it go!

  • Meditation. Like clouds passing by, allow your thoughts to move along as you guide your breath into a steady rhythm.

  • The art of saying ‘no’. Autumn is the time for editing. So cut back from too many social engagements.

  • Playing the game. Bring sudoku and other games back into your life.
