Spring Qi Chats | Week 8

Open that Kua!

This week we discuss the power of flow that you might be cutting off with how you move!

Pelvic Mobility

How you sit, stand and move will rely heavily on your pelvis’ positioning. Mobility comes from stability and in Qigong the Horse Stance teaches early students how you maintain a relaxed positioning of a neutral pelvis. Within this hold, students learn how to ‘open the kua’ - an area to the front of the hips where lymph flows and our connection with our hips takes shape. We can awaken this area one of two ways - sensory and mobility - usually this goes hand in hand.

Opening the Kua

The Kua is considered the bridge from upper to lower body. This is where your torso & legs connect and in today’s Qi Chat - I want to show you how to use a sensory tool knowns as ‘skin stretch’ to awaken your brain to this area in addition to some simple Qigong and neuro-based exercises to improve your low back, knees, hip stability and balance - all by opening the Kua!

Neuro-Qi Tip o’the day!

What’s your nugget?

  • Play with skin stretch around the Kua

  • Apply pelvic circles in your daily movement routine

  • Habit: Concentrate on how you’re sitting, standing and moving from the Kua
